Briggs's classic wordless picture book (and Boston Globe Horn Book Award winner) is reissued in a small-format board book. The art reproduction is excellent; however, the small trim size means that most of the panels are one-inch squares and take careful scrutiny to interpret.

The middle section of Briggs's popular story is outlined in six double-page spreads, each with something to touch, open, or scratch-and-sniff. Although the brief Christmastime story may entertain preschoolers, and the soft, colored-pencil illustrations are as appealing as ever, the volume lacks the magic of the original. Can you help the Snowman find him?""), and peer inside houses to view cozy nighttime scenes.
