"How Many Times Can We Order Pizza for Dinner?" "Please Just Go To Sleep Already!" The chapter titles in clinical psychologist Hershberg's book about toddler tirades consist of comedic quips that many parents may have quoted a time or two. According to the author, tantrums don't occur in a vacuum, and this survival guide is designed to help readers find the triggers and family dynamics that contribute to major meltdowns. Offering long-term strategies (think "L" for love and limits), Hershberg conveys the importance of a home filled with both warmth and boundaries. In addition, she acknowledges the need for in-the-moment strategies for heated times that teach parents to pause and create their own "bible" of methods specific to their child. VERDICT Including proactive and preventative approaches, Hershberg's comprehensive manual to the struggles of the preschool years will prove valuable to the multitude of parents looking to bring calm to their household.—Julia M.
